Gas Safety Responsibilities:
In Victoria, gas distributors are responsible for repairing gas leaks that occur at your gas meter or along the gas pipes running from the street to your gas meter. However, as a homeowner or business owner, you’re responsible for the maintenance of gas appliances and gas pipes throughout your property.
Energy Safe Victoria is the regulator overseeing gas safety in the state. If you have any concerns or queries regarding gas safety in your home or business, please refer to their guidelines.

Gas emergencies:
Gas leaks are serious and should never be ignored, as they can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and fires. If you detect a gas leak, act quickly:
- Turn off any gas appliances if it is safe to do so.
- Immediately call your gas distributor’s emergency number.
