Power faults and outages
What to do if there is an electricity or gas fault or outage
At a glance: Contact your electricity or gas distributor. You can find their contact details on the first page of your Arcline by RACV bill (under the heading 'Faults and Emergencies').
Faults and outages can happen for several reasons, from planned upgrades to electricity and gas infrastructure, to storms and unplanned grid outages. They can be sudden, unexpected and inconvenient.
If you experience a fault or emergency, the best solution is to contact your electricity or gas distributor directly. Your distributor manages your meter and the electricity wires/gas pipelines that transmit energy to your home, and they're available to help you 24/7.
You can find your distributor's contact details on the first page of your Arcline by RACV bill (under the heading 'Faults and Emergencies'), or in the list below. To work out which distributor looks after your home, look at the first four numbers of your NMI (National Meter Identifier) for electricity or the first four numbers of your MIRN (Meter Installation Registration Number) for gas - this is a unique number used to identify your meter which you can find on your energy bill. Learn more about the NMI and MIRN.
